С 15 по 22 февраля в память о воинах-интернационалистах, погибших в локальных конфликтах, в ЛиТЖТ – филиале РГУПС проходит Вахта Памяти. Она приурочена к 28-й годовщине вывода ограниченного контингента Советских войск из Афганистана. Вахта Памяти открылась выставкой фотографий, а также студенческих исследовательских работ на тему «Мои родственники – участники локальных конфликтов».

21 февраля студенты групп А-11, Д-11, Д-12, Т-13 приняли участие в поездке в г. Каменск-Шахтинский, во время которой они посетили музейную комнату Региональной организации инвалидов войны в Афганистане. Здесь ребята встретились с её руководителем, участником войн в Афганистане и Чечне, майором запаса, Тимашовым Юрием Григорьевичем и председателем регионального военно-исторического центра Ростовской области «Поисковое движение России» Павленко Александром Валентиновичем, которые рассказали студентам о своём участии в локальных конфликтах, познакомили их с содержанием экспозиций, показали найденные в ходе поисковых операций боевые трофеи, в том числе и времён Великой Отечественной войны. Особенно всех впечатлила панорама «Оборона», раскрывающая первое оборонительное сражение частей Советской Армии за город Каменск со стороны Старой Станицы.
Беседа с участниками локальных конфликтов продолжилась на Площади Труда, где невдалеке от памятников воинам Великой Отечественной войны возвышается постамент в честь каменчан, погибших во время афганской и чеченских войн. Собравшиеся почтили их память Минутой Молчания, возложили цветы.
